IIT -Delhi against the coupling of name FIIT-JEE IIT

DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Cooperation) which is know for providing prominent services and safety for travelling in Delhi has been auctioning naming rights to sponsors, both private companies and PSUs, to boost revenue since 2014.

In the recent years there are 43 stations that have been put up for auctions or renamed by sponsors  like ‘Jasola Apollo’ at Jasola Vihar station or ‘JK Tyre’ at ITO station.
The sponsor’s names are displayed prominently on the Metro station buildings.
But due to naming issues the DMRC partnership with FIIT JEE

(which is one of the Coaching Center for the preparation of competitive exam like JEE ) become controversial . It said that FIIT – JEE become sponsor of the soon-to-be opened Metro station opposite to IIT-D. Signage installed at the station has named it FIITJEE IIT, coupling the two names.

Due to which IIT-D is unhappy as authority is concern about the wrong impression on students which can be understand by the statement of

V.Rangopal (Director of IIT-D)statement “The move has led to many alumni, and prospective students asking us whether we have entered into a collaboration with the coaching institute, which is not fair. We have now filed a writ petition in court and hope to get a favourable response.”

Hence IIT-D has approached the authorities to remove the mention of IIT or the coaching institute FIITJEE from the name of the Metro station near its campus.IIT-D has also taken the matter to  human resource development (HRD) ministry and the urban development ministry. Petition is also filled in Delhi high court.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher on Friday asked FIITJEE and DMRC to respond to engineering college’s complaint.

Regarding the matter Anuj Dayal, spokesperson for DMRC stated that

“Since the matter is sub-judice, we shall suitably reply in court after examining in detail the issues raised by them. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has not done anything illegal in the matter.”

So the next court hearing of the matter will be held on 10th July.
