On Monday, hundreds of teachers from Delhi University held a demonstration at ITO to mark 50 days since they demanded the absorption of ad-hoc teachers.
Along with absorption, these teachers have several other demands including issues of promotions, pensions, illegal recovery etc.
While the MHRD has been cooperative with the teachers, no such attention is given by the DU adminstration. Infact, the university has failed to implement things ordered by the MHRD and UGC.
More than 4500 ad-hoc teachers were seen protesting in December. In order to prevent the students from suffering, the teachers agreed to resume the classes, but their demands still remain intact.
They raised their voices against the New Education Policy. They feel that the government should come up with a one-time regulation on this issue. There is no maternity leave or increment for ad hoc teachers. All teachers deserve these basic facilities. New posts would come up due to implementation of OBC and EWS reservation, which the university will have to fill up.
