With almost a week left for the commencement of DU admission, the varsity is actively reweighing some of the changes that would, most likely, be implemented by the authorities. Earlier, as per the official notification,  the onset of the application window for DU admission was postponed from April 15 to May 1. “We will, soon, come up with the revised schedule once we are ready with our changed policies and procedure”, shared Dean of Students’ Welfare Dr Rajeev Gupta.  This year, Delhi University will be introducing numerous changes in its admission procedure and methodologies, which can turn out to be nerve-wracking for some. The Delhi University (DU) is considering putting a cap on the number of students, in a college, who can opt for any Modern Indian language (MIL) as an optional subject at the undergraduate level. The proposed move is reportedly aimed at ensuring equal distribution of students in these languages across all colleges. Colleges across the university offer Modern Indian languages including Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu, Telugu, Bengali and Tamil, as optional subjects to the students enrolled in BA (programme) and BCom (programme) courses. MILs are offered as an option in the core courses category under the existing choice based credit system (CBCS). The future of 122 MPhil and PhD students of Delhi University’s Hindi department hangs in the balance as two aspirants, who were not selected to the programme, have approached the Delhi High Court against the alleged “illegal, arbitrary and unfair selection and admission of candidates”. All 122 students have been impleaded in the case and are expected to appear in the next hearing on March 27. The petitioners have asked the court to “quash the list of candidates selected for admission to MPhil/PhD programme”, alleging that the university violated the procedure for admission. Students said that with just days to go for the hearing, the department had not communicated to them if they were supposed to hire their own lawyers or if the university would represent them. The Delhi University (DU) adminstration had asked 11 department heads and a college to start the process of revising the curriculum of all their undergraduate courses and introduce the revised syllabus in the academic session 2019-20. This has raised objection from a section of the faculty who felt it to be a serious statutory violation. The undergraduate curriculum revision committee (2019) wrote an email last week to the heads of all 11 departments along with the administration of IP college for women with the revision schedule, asking them to abide by it. Delhi University is all set to diminish the number of times applicants applying to the university can change the courses or colleges during the admission process. The new regulation will be enforced from DU Admission 2019 application process from this academic year onwards.
