Approximately 1049 seats will be offered by the Delhi University under the Extra Curricular Activities ((ECA) quota and the schedule for the trials has also been announced to commence from June 25 and continue till July 5.
First and foremost, the university has asked the colleges to specifically mention the needed requirements for particular performers, asking for a detailed list of number of seats in every category.
Daulat Ram College (women) and Deshbandhu College are reportedly looking for a santoor player while Mata Sundri College for women and Raajdhani college are offering one seat for Mridangam player. Sabina Sethi, associate professor and undergraduate convenor of Lady Irwin College said that the categorization will somehow help in bringing diversity in the campuses as well as in rectifying ambiguity related to the inclusion of various instruments.
The maximum seats under the quota with 80, 83 and 110 seats respectively were occupied by Dance (Indian classical), Indian Music (vocals) and theatre. Almost 45 colleges are offering seats for Indian classical dance and theatre students seeking admission can try in 49 colleges including Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Ramanujan College and Sri Aurobindo CollegeCollege (evening).
Sethi is also demanding for an upgradation of the list of ECA activities. Some of the activities under ECA quota are Creative Writing ( Hindi and English) , debate (Hindi and English), digital media (photography, film making and animation), fine arts, quiz and divinity.
